"Calm waters never made a skillful sailor."
I wrote this exactly one year ago. I just found out my grama Lee was in the hospital in Yakima with congestive heart failure, now chronic heart failure. I was feeling very vulnerable and down, no one really close to me has ever died before; I either hadn't known them very well or was too young to remember. My grama is very dear to me: she's lived with us numerous times and I've lived with her as well, actually I am living with her at this very moment. Anyway, I love her.
After I had written the poem, Casting Crowns' song 'Praise You in this Storm' came on the radio. I immediately felt God's peace and love, knowing he was listening to me pour out my heart and that he cares about me, comforting me with a song. :) So, without further ado, here is my heart-felt poem:
"The weather is a likeness to my heart at present. A crack of lightening, a roll of thunder, tossing & turning like a wave lost in a storm of rolling seas. Up & down, up & down, up & down. Like a ship in the open ocean. Vulnerable. A ray of sunlight finds its way into my life, then it goes back to memory & the clouds once again fill the skies. The voice of my heart is cracking, hot & tight, trying not to leak out what it's trying to keep out oh so badly. Emotion. Heartache. The very fear of absence."
-Though my heart is torn, I will praise you in this storm.
